The Tick- New to DVD
The Tick vs. Season One (Buena Vista Home Entertainment)
-
New To DVDWay back in 1994 the citizens of The City
were introduced to a new
superhero. A tall lad in tights of blue had been sent to aid them with
their
woes. He was known as The Tick. Not that The City was in any real need
of
yet another superhero the place was crawling with them well before the
arrival of the mighty boob in blue.
The Tick, along with his sidekick Arthur (an accountant in a moth suit),
faced evil-doers and put foil to their oh so evil plans. This, dear
reader,
sums up the plot of the cartoon series that Fox aired for three seasons
on
Saturday mornings.
Actually, The Tick was created by Ben Edlund as a mascot back in 1986
and
then became an underground comic in 1989. So there is some history outside
of the animated series and later live action show if you wanna dig into
it.
From the bumblings of incongruous superheroes to the most bizzzare rouges
gallery of evil-doers, The Tick was a comedic goldmine of satire and
silliness. From a chairfaced madman bent on carving their name on the
face
of the moon to an army of corn led by a power hungry sunflower, the
adventures of each episode is a study in the absurd. Satirizing both
comic
book heroes and the bulk cartoons of the time. It's quality entertainment
for all champions of justice.
Unleashed for the first time on DVD this two-disc set contains twelve
of the
thirteen episodes from the first season. For reasons that were highly
speculated upon episode eleven, The Tick vs. The Mole-Men, has been
left off
of this collection. The official word is that it was left off due to
the
creators dislike of the episode. Word on the street says the episode
will
show up in a later collection.
The picture quality of each episode is as bright and vivid as the day
the
first episode aired. The two things that hurt this release is the lack
of
extras (there are none) and the above mentioned exclusion of episode
eleven.
7/10
